Lattarula Fig
The Lattarula fig, also known as the Italian Honey fig, is celebrated for its sweet, golden-green figs that have a delicious honey-like flavor. This deciduous tree features attractive, large leaves and can grow quite large, making it a beautiful addition to any garden. The figs are perfect for fresh eating, drying, or using in various culinary dishes.
Planting Instructions:
Location:
Choose a sunny spot that gets at least 6-8 hours of sunlight daily. Lattarula figs thrive in warm climates but can tolerate cooler temperatures.
Soil Preparation:
Ensure well-draining soil rich in organic matter. Figs prefer slightly alkaline to neutral pH. If your soil is heavy, amend it with compost or sand for better drainage.
Planting:
Spacing: If planting multiple trees, space them about 15-20 feet apart to allow for proper growth.
Depth: Dig a hole twice as wide and the same depth as the root ball. Place the tree in the hole, ensuring the top of the root ball is level with the surrounding soil. Backfill with soil and water thoroughly.
Watering:
Water the tree deeply once a week during dry spells, especially in the first year. Once established, Lattarula figs are somewhat drought-tolerant, but consistent moisture helps improve fruit quality.
Fertilization:
Fertilize in early spring with a balanced fertilizer to encourage healthy growth and fruit production. Avoid over-fertilizing, as this can lead to excessive leaf growth at the expense of fruit.
Pruning:
Prune in late winter or early spring to shape the tree and remove any dead or crowded branches. This promotes better air circulation and improves fruiting.
Harvesting:
Figs typically ripen in late summer to early fall. Harvest when they feel soft and slightly droopy. Enjoy fresh, dried, or in recipes!
With proper care, your Lattarula fig tree can produce an abundance of delicious figs for years to come!
